Near Death Experiences

Many people who have died, gone to the other side, and come back, describe the same thing. They leave their body. They float through a vast, dark nothingness. Then they see or become light — whether a great bright light, a spark of light, or iridescent colored lights that seem alive. They then become everything, a profound oneness with all of existence. Everything feels like love. The entire universe feels perfect exactly as it is. They understand everything, and there’s nothing left to need or want. They feel safe, at peace, and like they've finally come “home.”
But, the craziest part is, the dead aren’t the only ones who experience this.
People who take 🍄 DMT, the most potent psychedelic substance in the world, also report this. 🕰️ Past-life regression patients under deep hypnosis, who relive past-life memories of “The Source,” say the same thing. Even 🛐 the mystics from the world religions who repeatedly, as far back as 2,500 years, claim to experience transcending their mind by meditation and achieving oneness with God, describe something similar. Heck, even a “psychic” who through a method called 👁️‍🗨️ “remote viewing,” developed in once classified US government psychic research programs, targeted “The Nature of God,” and perceived exactly the same thing. And, let’s not forget about 👤 entirely ordinary people, who after a difficult experience, or even while just going about their everyday activities like doing the dishes, suddenly, for no apparent reason at all, spontaneously have this experience too.
That’s my discovery, pieced together over the past 3 years, across 40 + individual stories — the big picture of which we’ll explore in detail elsewhere, when the time comes.
But, in this page, we’ll take a closer look at the unique angle of this extraordinary experience from perhaps the most “far out” point of view. 💀 Near-death experiences — people who have momentarily died, were revived, and remembered the light, love, and unity they experienced on the other side.
What will you learn in this page? You’ll take 💀 a quick look at what a near-death experience (NDE) even is, 🔍 the common themes I found across 7 NDEs of Light-Love-Unity or Source Energy, 🗃️ the entire collection of the 7 individual NDE accounts, 📖 the story of how I found them in the first place, and even 🧭 how to find more of these accounts yourself.
So, before we get to the light, love, and unity of Source as experienced in NDEs, we need to answer a simpler question: what does it even mean to have a “near death experience”?

Table of Contents

1.💀 What is a Near Death Experience? (NDE)

A near death experience (NDE) is kind of what it sounds like: an experience someone has after a close encounter with death. Raymond Moody, the philosopher and psychiatrist who coined the term “NDE,” and pioneered the entire field with his 1975 book, “Life After Life,” classified 3 types of close calls with death (Moody, 1975, p. 15):
💀
1. Clinical Death — When you stop breathing and your heart stops beating, which is when a doctor, if present, would literally pronounce you “dead” (hence “clinical death”). Obviously, these people are brought back in time, which is why they’re able to tell us what they experienced “on the other side.”
2. Close to Death — When someone suffers a life-threatening accident or illness and come dangerously close to clinical death. Examples are near-drowning, car accidents, getting electrocuted, falling from tall places, allergic reactions, heart-attacks, and more. In many of these cases, the person usually ends up unconscious and that’s when they have their strange experiences.
3. Dying — When someone is on the verge of clinically dying. For example, someone’s last few minutes on their death bead. They might be in and out of consciousness during this, and report strange experiences to their loved ones, or anyone else who’s there with them.
The close call with death is only the underlying cause though. What actually matters is what people experience when this happens. Because after collecting about 150 of these cases, Moody found around 15 themes people kept reporting. And a few years later, the psychologist Kenneth Ring ran the first serious statistical study of them in Life at Death (1980). Of the 102 people he interviewed who had close calls with death, 48% reported some of these themes (Ring, 1980). Over the years, these common themes have now formed what some call the “typical NDE” or the “core experience.”
It goes something like this. Pain disappears and is replaced by deep peace. Some hear a loud buzzing or ringing noise. They leave their body and watch it from above. They float through a vast dark space, and progressively approach a bright light that’s warm, loving, and somehow doesn’t hurt to see. (You can stare at the light all you want when you die.) Some arrive in a beautiful, earth-like world where they meet deceased relatives. They then relive their whole life in a review. Finally they decide, or are told, to come back.
Not everyone has every theme, they don’t always come in that order (Moody, 1975, p. 16.). In fact, Ring found the deeper you go down the list, the rarer they get (Ring, 1980, p. 39.). But, this is still a good generalization of the experience that researchers use to this very day. If you’re curious, you can dive into some of these themes in a bit more detail, by opening the 8 toggles below…

But how do these themes of the typical NDE tie into the NDE of the “Light-Love-Unity” or “Source Energy” experience that I discovered? And might the new themes reveal a completely new near death experience that also cuts across cultural, religious, temporal, and geographical lines? Let’s find out…

2. 🔍 The Common Themes of the NDE of “Source Energy” or “Light-Love-Unity”

☠️ The 7 Experiencers

Before we see the common themes of the experience, let’s learn a bit about the 7 experiencers themselves — their background, religious affiliation, and how they “died” or came “close to death.” As you can see, they’re all very different people, with diverse spiritual beliefs, and dying (or coming close) in vastly distinct situations. This gives us reason to believe there’s something real behind their shared experience, rather than it being merely a figment of their imagination.
•
🫀📉 Joshua H — An adult male from the United States, raised Protestant Christian, but renounced organized religion in his mid-twenties. He had an allergic reaction to sedatives during kidney stone procedure, which led to cardiac arrest (heart stopped beating, blood stopped circulating, breathing stops, brain shut down) and heart flatlining for about 8 minutes (heart’s electrical activity stops).
•
🫀📉 Randa Akeia — An adult female from the United States. She would sporadically pass out. After some tests, doctors found that her heart was skipping three beats, but they still didn’t know the cause. During an overnight stay at a hospital, she flatlined (heart’s electrical activity stopped). Doctors later discovered the cause: she was missing a sympathetic nerve connection between her upper and lower parts of heart that connected her pulse.
•
🌊 Cami M — When she was just 1 year old, she was held underwater in the bathtub by her older 2 year old sister, for 6 minutes. Her mom found her in time and gave her CPR, successfully reviving her. But, she remembered the whole thing, including the NDE she had while near drowning.
•
🌊 A Swedish four-year-old — An anonymous Swedish boy. He drowned in the pool after trying to save a small insect. The time he spent underwater isn’t mentioned. But, his father spotted him at some point, and performed CPR, successfully resuscitating him. While near drowning, he had an NDE.
•
🫀🩸 David Williamson — An adult male from North Carolina, United States. He had a heart attack after living with untreated high blood pressure.
•
☣️ John Wren-Lewis — An atheist and skeptical science writer. He was given poisoned candy by a luggage thief, and his pulse stopped.
•
🧠🦠 Nikolai — A 54-year old male from North America. He fell into a week-long coma from a severe brain infection (“bacterial meningoencephalitis”).
Now, let’s take a look at the common patterns they experienced…

🧩 The Common Themes

Here’s what these 7 people, who never met, describe after either their hearts stopped, their lungs filled with water, or fell into a coma. I’ve grouped the themes of their experiences roughly in the order of how they tend to show up. They’re still a work in progress, and will keep evolving as I collect more stories. But, here’s a brief summary:
1.
👻 They leave their physical body and see it from above, but still seeing their worldly surroundings.
2.
🕳️ They float through a vast, dark nothingness.
3.
🌟 They see or become light — whether a ☀️ great bright light, ✨ a spark of light, or 🌈 iridescent colored lights that appear alive.
4.
🫠 They lose their sense of their body, self, surroundings, aka., have an ego-death.
5.
💭 They are sheer consciousness.
6.
🌎 They become everything or experience a profound oneness with all of existence.
7.
❤️ They feel that everything is love.
8.
💡 They understand everything.
9.
💎 They feel that the entire universe is perfect exactly as it is, not one grain of sand is out of place.
10.
🛡️ They feel completely safe.
11.
🏠 They feel like they’ve finally come home, to the place where they’ve always been, and always will be, from which everything comes, and to which everything returns.
That’s the general idea. Let’s now dive into each more deeply, with examples from the experiencers themselves…

3. 📖 How I Found The NDE Stories of “Light-Love-Unity” or “Source Energy”

The first story I ever found was actually a total synchronicity, as it often is with these fascinating discoveries. I was bored watching the Netflix Documentary Series, “Surviving Death” in a hotel, after a rafting trip in Mexico. To my surprise, on literally season 1, episode 1, at exactly 33 minutes and 44 seconds (yup, angel numbers!), a woman named Randa Akeia gave a brief glimpse of her NDE of “Source Energy.” It was literally the only thing she said in the entire series:
“I was a tiny, tiny light, a little tiny speck of light, and then I’d become a great, big light.” — Randa Akeia (Surviving Death, 2021)
Look at the timestamp “33:44”. I think the universe was trying to tell me something…
As soon as I heard this, I giggled like a mad man and started dancing around the room. This is usually what I do when I find what feels like a “fated” connection.
Because I realized this very brief quote was the exact same description that the past life regression patients of Dolores Cannon give when describing being an “Energy Spark” within “Source Energy.” So, this led me to desperately search for her full experience, which I finally found on two Youtube videos: a podcast, and interview. Once again, to my surprise, she described even more common themes I identified across all the other mystical experience paths. I was instantly hooked, and began to search for more NDEs to find more of these similar experiences.
That’s when I stumbled upon the second source of stories — NDE Vaults — basically repositories of NDE accounts collected by organizations like the Near Death Experience Research Foundation (NDERF), and the International Association for Near Death Studies (IANDS). I only looked through them for 15 minutes and found 3 more stories which were clearly describing the same thing as Randa and the other experience paths — ego-death, the union with a bright light, being a spark or bubble of light, perceiving iridescent sparkly colors, becoming one with all existence, feeling unconditional love, a sense of being home, and much more. I added them to the collection, and moved on…
But then, while looking for something to watch during breakfast, I found the Youtube Channel, “Coming Home” (notice this has one of the common themes I found, “the feeling of coming home,” as its title!!) This channel shared NDE stories from experiencers themselves, in a documentary-style interview format. That week, I must’ve watched about 3 of them, and once again, 2 of them were like the “Light-Love-Unity” experience! In fact, I even analyzed 1 of them for the collection, which has one of my favorite descriptions of the oneness with existence (”unity”) common theme.
So, what do the individual experiencers or stories themselves say? Well, find out…

4. 🗂️ The Complete Collection of NDEs of “Source Energy” or “Love-Light-Unity”

This is the entire collection of NDE stories of Light-Love-Unity or Source Energy, in full, in case you want to analyze them yourself for your own research, or out of pure curiosity…
There’s only a few so far, so the question is, can we find more?…

5. 🧭 How To Find More NDE Stories — A Final “Take-Home” Exercise

There are still a lot more stories to be added to the collection. I LITERALLY JUST FOUND THESE! And there’s only 7 so far. This is just the beginning. So, in light of this, as a fun little final exercise, I urge you jump into any of the NDE vaults, or the “Coming Home” channel and try to find more of these experiences yourself.
I can bet that in 5 minutes, you’ll find one. Below are tips on how to do just that. (Please try this at least once! Trust me, it feels awesome finding one of these experiences yourself. You’ll be doing the kind of research I do on the regular!)
•
Near Death Experience Research Foundation (NDERF) — Search for more stories under the filter “feeling one with the universe” or “see a bright unearthly light;” if you filter for both, there’s over 569 experiences as of July 2026!
•
The International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) — Search for more stories by filtering for any of the common descriptive themes I’ve identified (“light,” “oneness,” “love,” “colors,” “ego-death”.).
•
“Coming Home” Youtube Channel — This shares NDE stories from the experiencers themselves, in a documentary-style interview format. It’s very fun to listen to or watch these videos when you’re bored. For this, just try to look for titles or thumbnails that mention some of the common themes, like “light,” “oneness,” “love.”
If you find an experience that you believe fits the common themes, or you’ve had a similar experience yourself, we can talk about it over email: iamindigobruno@gmail.com.
Although there’s only 7 experiencers so far, this already tells us of a common experience that many people around the world seem to have when they “die,” and are “brought back.” The implication of this is enormous, but all we can do, for now, is continue to collect the puzzle pieces, and hopefully experience some more synchronicities that keep leading us on the right path to understanding “Source.” It’s time we come home…
